Youngstown woman accused of OVI, endangering child

GIRARD — A Youngstown woman was in Girard Municipal Court on Friday for an arraignment on charges stemming from a traffic stop Thursday evening where police say she was intoxicated and endangered a child.

Marquita Robertson, 37, of 3075 Goleta Ave., pleaded not guilty to charges of operating a vehicle intoxicated, endangering children and resisting arrest.

According to a police report, officers were alerted to a vehicle swerving in and out of traffic. When they caught up to the vehicle on North State Street, they observed it driving erratically and conducted a traffic stop. The report states when police started approaching the vehicle, a 12-year-old passenger exited the vehicle and was crying and screaming at the driver.

The driver was identified as Robertson and the child told police Robertson was heavily intoxicated and that she and Robertson were at a restaurant and “(Robertson) was drinking the whole time.” The report states when police were speaking with Robertson, they could smell alcohol on her breath. When asked, Robertson denied drinking and agreed to, but subsequently failed, several field sobriety tests.

While trying to detain Robertson, the report states she pulled away numerous times, but police were able to arrest her. Robertson was then taken to Girard Police Department and was unable to provide a breath sample at the station. She was released later to a family member.

Robertson is due back in court at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 15 for a pretrial, court records show.
