YOUNGSTOWN -- A Youngstown man was sentenced to five months in federal prison on a violation of his probation on a March 2020 conviction in a federal drug conspiracy case.
Anthony W. Howell, 32, of Springdale Street, violated his federal probation when he was picked up Oct. 19, 2020, on an aggravated menacing charge, according to court records.
In a July 12 hearing before federal Judge Solomon Oliver Jr., Howell admitted to the violation and his supervision was revoked. He was then taken into the custody of the Bureau of Prisons.
After his release, Howell is to have an 18-month supervision period, with Oliver saying the defendant shall be placed in an in-person intensive substance-abuse program for at least 30 days.
Howell was named in a multiple count federal indictment on Jan. 29, 2019, involving several defendants dealing with a conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine. Court records show that Howell, who admitted having a minor role in the drug enterprise, had agreed to a plea deal and was sentenced May 8 by Oliver to three years of probation.
Municipal court records show Howell was charged with the aggravated menacing misdemeanor after an investigation by Youngstown police into a Aug. 21, 2020, incident. On Jan. 21, 2021, Howell pleaded no contest to a disorderly conduct charge and he was fined and sentenced to community service.
Court records show Howell also was sentenced to two years in state prison after violating probation in an unrelated 2018 burglary case.
