June had the fewest COVID-19 cases of any full month since the start of the pandemic -- and it's not even close.
The 9,390 cases in June is significantly lower than the 15,828 cases reported in April 2020, the first full month of the pandemic and the one with the fewest cases until now. The first COVID-19 case in Ohio was reported March 9, 2020, and that month had 2,199 cases.
During the first 15 days of June, there were 5,587 cases, an average of about 372.5 per day. During the last 15 days of the month, that dropped to 3,803 cases, a daily average of about 253.5.
The cases in Ohio last month were a steep decline from the 29,622 reported in May, 54,746 reported in April and 50,144 reported in March.
The number of reported cases for a month peaked in December at 279,317.
There were 195,412 in January and 71,630 in February.
There were 13 times between Nov. 23 and Jan. 8 in which there were more cases in a single day than Ohio had in all of June. The 200 new cases Wednesday is down from the daily average of 267 for the past 21 days, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
The state had a total of 1,111,324 COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 1,083,959 presumed recovered. The ODH provides death information on Tuesdays and Fridays. There were 20,309 deaths as of Tuesday.
Mahoning County had 22,415 total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 21,662 presumed recovered and 604 deaths, according to the ODH.
Trumbull County had 16,590 total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 15,975 presumed recovered and 485 deaths. Columbiana County had 9,052 total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 8,786 presumed recovered and 234 deaths.
VACCINATIONS
There were 5,570,401 people, 47.65 percent of the state's population, who had at least started getting inoculated as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, including 7,895 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH.
In Mahoning County, 46.35 percent of the population (105,998 people) had received at least one dose with 44.04 percent of the population in Trumbull County (87,192 people) and 37.34 percent in Columbiana County (38,039 people) as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to the ODH.
There were 5,183,642 people, (44.35 percent of the state's population), who finished the vaccinations as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, including 10,683 in the prior 24 hours.
In Mahoning County, 42.68 percent of the population (97,602 people) had completed the process while 40.23 percent of the population in Trumbull (79,637 people) and 35.01 percent of the population in Columbiana (35,671 people) had as of 6 a.m. Wednesday.
