Virus cases continue to trend downward in Valley, state

For the 24th consecutive day, Ohio has reported fewer than 500 new daily cases of COVID-19.

On Tuesday, the Ohio Department of Health reported an increase of 277 new cases of the virus, bringing the state total to 1,111,124.

Locally, the Mahoning Valley has seen an incease of eight new cases since Monday.

Trumbull County has seen three new cases for a total of 16,585; Mahoning County with an increase of four bringing the total to 22,414; and Columbiana County with one new case, for a total of 9,047.

Two new deaths were reported locally Tuesday: one each in Mahoning County and Columbiana County. Mahoning County now has had 604 deaths, while Columbiana County has had 234.

Trumbull County has 485 deaths recorded.

Statewide, 20,309 deaths have been reported.

The 21-day death average is 14, while the 21-day reported case average is 276.

Trumbull County has had 1,220 hospitalizations, with 15,971 presumed recovered.

Mahoning County has had 1,077 hospitalizations, with 21,657 presumed recovered.

Columbiana County has had 503 hospitalizations, with 8,783 presumed recovered.

Across the state, there have been 60,577 hospitalizations, with 8,313 of those as intensive-care unit admissions.

VACCINATIONS

As of Tuesday, the ODH has reported that 47.60 percent of the state's population, or 5,563,736 people, have started the vaccination process. Statewide, 5,172,518 vaccinations have been completed, which is an increase of 7,341 from the day before.

Trumbull County saw an increase of 90 people in 24 hours starting the vaccination, bringing the new total to 87,110, or 44 percent. There have been 79,495 who have completed their vaccinations.

In Mahoning County, 105,888 -- or 46.30 percent of the county -- have begun the vaccination, which is an increase of 117 from the day before. A total of 97,326 have completed their vaccinations.

Columbiana County has had 18 more people start vaccinations, with 38,018 now starting, or 37.32 percent of the county's population. There have been 35,602 who have completed their vaccinations.
