State on pace to post fewest monthly cases

Halfway through, June is on pace to be the full month with the fewest reported COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.

As of Tuesday, Ohio had 5,587 total cases reported for the first 15 days of June, a daily average of about 372.5. At that rate, the state will have 11,174 COVID-19 cases this month.

That’s considerably fewer than the 15,828 cases reported in April 2020, the first full month of the pandemic and the month that currently has the fewest cases. The first COVID-19 case in the state was reported March 9, 2020, and that month had 2,199 cases.

The 296 new cases Tuesday is down from the daily average of 425 for the past 21 days, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

The state had a total of 1,107,521 COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 1,077,557 presumed recovered and 20,122 deaths.

The ODH provides death information on Tuesdays and Fridays.

There were 31 additional deaths in the state since Friday, including three in Trumbull County and two in Mahoning County.

Mahoning County had 22,340 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 21,475 presumed recovered and 603 deaths, according to the ODH.

Trumbull County had 16,529 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 15,847 presumed recovered and 482 deaths.

Columbiana County had 9,026 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 8,726 presumed recovered and 230 deaths.

VACCINATIONS

There were 5,464,740 people, 46.75 percent of the state’s population, who at least had started getting inoculated as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, including 10,979 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH.

In Mahoning County, 45.36 percent of the population (103,731 people) had received at least one dose, while 43.49 percent of the population in Trumbull County (86,108 people) and 36.92 percent in Columbiana County (37,616 people) had as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to the ODH.

There were 4,943,253 people, 42.29 percent of the state’s population, who finished the vaccinations as of 6 a.m. Tuesday, including 10,979 in the prior 24 hours.

In Mahoning County, 40.56 percent of the population (92,764 people) had completed the process, while 38.47 percent of the population in Trumbull (76,169 people) and 33.89 percent of the population in Columbiana (34,532 people) had as of 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The fourth of five weekly winners of $1 million and a college scholarship among those who at least started the vaccination process and entered the statewide drawing will be announced 7:29 p.m. today.

There were 3,428,514 adults and 150,187 kids between the ages of 12 and 17 who entered the drawings for the money and the scholarships, respectively.
