Ohio posts 7th straight day with under 500 cases

Ohio has gone seven straight days with fewer than 500 new COVID-19 cases for the first time in a year.

The last time there were this many days in a row with fewer than 500 cases was between May 29 and June 16, 2020.

The 347 new cases Friday is down from the daily average of 508 for the past 21 days, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

The state had a total of 1,106,411 COVID-19 cases as of Friday with 1,074,804 presumed recovered and 20,091 deaths.

The ODH provides death information on Tuesdays and Fridays.

There were 70 deaths since Tuesday, including one each in Mahoning and Columbiana counties. It was the first reported COVID-19 death in Columbiana since April 27.

Mahoning County had 22,324 total COVID-19 cases as of Friday with 21,372 presumed recovered and 601 deaths, according to the ODH.

Trumbull County had 16,515 total COVID-19 cases as of Friday with 15,778 presumed recovered and 479 deaths.

Columbiana County had 9,012 total COVID-19 cases as of Friday with 8,699 presumed recovered and 230 deaths.

VACCINATIONS

There were 5,434,851 people, 46.5 percent of the state’s population, who at least had started getting inoculated as of 6 a.m. Friday, including 21,372 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH.

In Mahoning County, 45.15 percent of the population (103,255 people) had received at least one dose with 43.3 percent of the population in Trumbull County (85,722 people) and 36.73 percent in Columbiana County (37,426 people) as of 6 a.m. Friday, according to the ODH.

There were 4,869,845 people, 41.66 percent of the state’s population, who finished the vaccinations as of 6 a.m. Friday, including 20,647 in the prior 24 hours.

In Mahoning County, 40.13 percent of the population (91,762 people) had completed the process, while 37.99 percent of the population in Trumbull (75,209 people) and 33.37 percent of the population in Columbiana (33,996 people) had as of 6 a.m. Friday.

The Trumbull County Combined Health District is having a COVID-19 Johnson & Johnson vaccine clinic for those 18 years and older 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Eastwood Field during the Mahoning Valley Scrappers game. Those getting a vaccine during this game will receive a free ticket to an upcoming Scrappers game.
