More businesses get city grants to help recovery
YOUNGSTOWN — The city is giving five more businesses money to help them recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The board of control on Thursday approved three $10,000 grants as well as a $6,000 grant and a $3,600 one.
That brings the number of businesses to 15 that have benefited from the city grants.
The city’s COVID-19 business stabilization program is designed to help small businesses create and retain jobs in eligible low-income census tracts.
The fund has $220,000 in it with $200,000 from the city’s Community Development Block Grant fund by way of federal COVID-19 relief money and $20,000 from the KeyBank Business Boost and Build Program.
Businesses with three to 25 employees were eligible for operating expenses going back to March 15, 2020, for up to $10,000 each.
The board approved five $10,000 grants May 27, and five $10,000 grants and a $9,600 grant June 11.
The three $10,000 grants awarded by the board Thursday went to:
• Advantage Video and Marketing, 201 E. Commerce St., Suite 310.
• Capital Grill in the 20 Federal Place food court.
• My Lil Angel’s Better Care Learning Center, 3125 Shady Run Road.
Also, a $6,000 grant went to Ryan’s Chair Barber and Beauty Salon, 2935 Glenwood Ave., and $3,600 to Pamtom 3D Commercial Printing, 904 S. Hazelwood Ave.
Meanwhile, the board also approved a $35,000 contract with Mahoning Valley College Access Program to create a “consortium specifically designed to increase the capacity of nonprofit organizations that provide workforce development opportunities to low-moderate income residents,” according to the board’s agenda. The city is using federal COVID-19 relief funds to pay for the contract.
