Hubbard robbery suspect held after Indiana stop

HUBBARD — A man accused of robbing a Hubbard convenience store Sunday has been arrested by Hendricks, Ind., authorities after a traffic stop over a minor traffic violation.

According to a Hubbard police news release, Miambo Maombi, 21, of Bosie, Idaho, was charged Wednesday with aggravated robbery and kidnapping in connection to the 3:06 a.m. Sunday armed robbery of the Circle K convenience store, 211 W. Liberty St. Maombi will have to waive extradiction in Indiana before being brought back to Girard Municipal Court to answer the charges.

The robber appeared to be in his early 20s and was dressed in all black when he threatened a clerk with a firearm while stealing money from the cash register, Hubbard police said. He traveled south on Hager Street after leaving the store. The robber also took the cashier’s cellphone and the store phone, which have since been recovered.

In the news release, Hubbard police Sgt. Michael Banic said his office worked closely with the FBI’s Youngstown office, the Niles Police Department and Henricks County Sheriff’s office in Indiana.
