YOUNGSTOWN -- A Deerfield man faces federal drug and gun charges after a May 18 search of a Deerfield home netted nine loaded weapons and suspected drugs.
Billy Sam Mullins, 41, was taken into federal custody May 19, and his case has been bound over to a federal grand jury. Magistrate Judge Carmen Henderson at Wednesday's hearing at the federal courthouse in Youngstown ordered Mullins detained without bond.
Mullins, who remained incarcerated in Mahoning County jail, faces charges of being a felon in possession of firearms and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. He faces a potential sentence of more than 10 years in prison.
According to an affidavit written by ATF agent Elizabeth Gardner, Mullins was detained during a warrant search of his girlfriend's Mahoning Road home in Deerfield. Mullins showed officers with the Portage County Drug Task Force where his guns, drugs and paraphernalia were located in the house.
Among the items seized from the Deerfield home:
• Loaded .38-caliber Titan Tiger special revolver; .338-caliber Smith & Wesson Model 1500 magnum rifle; .22 caliber Ruger, Model Mark II pistol; Smith and Wesson Model 18 .22-caliber revolver; Rock Island Armory Modle AK 47/22 rifle; .22-caliber Remington Model 550-1 rifle; a .22-caliber Springield Model 87a rifle; a 20-gauge Revelation Model 350 shotgun; and a .22-caliber Marlin Firearms Model 983S rifle plus ammunition and a suspected silencer;
• More than four small containers of suspected heroin / fentanyl weighing about 8 grams; four containers of suspected methamphetamine weighing about 32 grams; a plastic bag of suspected methamphetamine weighing about 14 grams;
• A digital scale and a money counter.
The suspected methamphetamine was field tested positive for the drug but the suspected heroin / fentanyl was not field tested because of safety concerns and submitted to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for chemical anaylsis, the affidavit states.
According to the affidavit, Mullins can't possess firearms due to a 2016 conviction in Portage County of aggravating trafficking in drugs.
