COVID-19 cases in Ohio hover near average

New COVID-19 cases reported statewide Wednesday stand at just one below the 21-day average, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

The ODH reports that the average is 324 and the new cases statewide was 323 on Wednesday.

Total cases in Ohio are 1,109,697. Presumed recovered cases made a 611-case jump to bring the total to 1,081,589. Death totals remain at 20,213. Since last week, the state has increased COVID-19 cases by 1,795 and added 3,313 presumed recovered cases.

The ODH provides death information on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties added seven new cases.

Mahoning County saw an increase of five COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 22,388. The ODH reported 602 deaths and 21,597 presumed recovered cases — an increase of 21 from the previous day. Compared to last week’s reported cases, the county has added 42 cases. As for deaths, the ODH erroneously reported a death. The correct number indicates no change from last week. Presumed recovered cases reported last week marks an increase of 101 to Wednesday’s numbers.

Trumbull County tacked on one new case, making the total 16,560. The ODH reported 483 deaths and 15,928 presumed recovered cases — an increase of 15. Since last week, the county added 25 cases, one death and 70 presumed recovered cases.

Columbiana County also added only one new case, raising the total to 9,039. The ODH reported 230 deaths and 8,769 presumed recovered cases — an increase of three. Since last week, there has been an increase of 12 cases, no change in death totals and 40 new presumed recovered cases.

Today, Mahoning County Public Health will have Moderna vaccinations available at 50 Westchester Drive in Austintown. The vaccinations will be available 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Walk-ins are available or appointments can be made at www.mahoninghealth.org. Those wishing to get the Moderna vaccine must be 18 years of age or older.

The fifth and final winner of the $1 million Vax-A-Million drawing is Esperanza Diaz of Butler County. The full-ride scholarship winner is Sydney Daum of Brecksville.
