Boy, 16, shot to death in apartment

YOUNGSTOWN — A Youngstown boy, 16, was shot to death in an apartment on Hammaker Street on the North Side Thursday afternoon.

Youngstown police responded to the apartment at 1:30 p.m. and found the teen dead of a gunshot wound. A male juvenile was taken into custody for questioning, police stated in a news release.

Youngstown police are investigating the shooting, along with the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office. Police ask for the public’s help in solving the case by calling 330-746-CLUE or 330-742-8YPD with any tips or information.

Individuals providing information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator will be eligible for a cash reward.

The killing is the 13th of the year in Youngstown. The previous homicide was Sunday, when police found Kesean Bunch, 23, shot to death in the 2500 block of Glenwood Avenue on the South Side.

Police responded about 1:45 p.m. Sunday to investigate a shooting and found Bunch lying in a rear parking lot with one gunshot wound.

Police also are still investigating the early May 23 shooting deaths of two men near the Torch Club bar on Salt Springs Road and have not made any arrests in that case.

Another man died in a crash several blocks away from the Torch Club as vehicles were leaving the area. Two other men were wounded near the club. but survived.
