Woman indicted in shooting that hit girl in bed

YOUNGSTOWN — A Warren woman has been indicted, accused of driving the vehicle in a drive-by shooting on East Avondale Avenue March 31 that struck a 13-year-old girl in the leg while in bed.

Jana M. Cox, 25, of York Avenue, was indicted Thursday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises, improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation or a school safety zone, felonious assault and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle. Some of the charges also carry gun specifications that could add extra time to her sentence if she is convicted.

The victim in the 2 a.m. shooting is expected to recover, Youngstown police Chief Carl Davis has said.

Police also arrested two teenagers in the shooting. They are Kasean R. Wilkerson, 16, of East Lucius Avenue, and Xavier Hile, 16, of Buckeye Circle, whose cases are being handled in Mahoning County Juvenile Court. They are each charged with felonious assault and discharging a firearm at or into a habitation, school or safety zone.

After being alerted to the shooting, an officer observed a white vehicle matching the description of the vehicle involved leaving the area, police said. That vehicle was traffic stopped at Interstate 680 and South Avenue. The officer was nearby when the shooting took place, Davis said.

Also indicted Thursday was Christopher M. Figueroa, 41, of Whipple Avenue in Campbell, on six counts of rape, five counts of sexual battery and two counts of gross sexual imposition. The offenses are alleged to have occurred from 2016 to 2021 and began when the victim was 12.

The following other people also were indicted:

Cameron D. Schmid, 19, East Oregon Avenue, Sebring, 20 counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor or impaired person;

Ronald L. Heestand, 42, Pleasant Ridge Street, Minerva, aggravated drug possession and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia;

Damon T. Green, 24, West LaClede Avenue, fentanyl-related compound trafficking, fentanyl related compound possession, cocaine trafficking,

two counts cocaine possession, aggravated drug trafficking and aggravated drug possession, all with a specification of forfeiture of money in a drug case, being a felon in possession of a firearm and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia with a specification of forfeiture of money in a drug case;

Brandon M. Williams, 28, Kenneth Street, fentanyl-

related compound possession, cocaine possession and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia;

Vivian E. Warren, 54, Mahoning County jail, felonious assault.

Arnold G. Shiflett II, 33, Mahoning County jail, aggravated drug possession with a specification of forfeiture of money in a drug case;

Tyler T. Drummond, 24, Salem Alliance Road, Sebring, aggravated drug possession;

Jarvis S. Sanders, 41, Gordon Avenue, Campbell, cocaine possession;

Amanda S. Bonin, 40, homeless, failure to provide notice of change of address;

Denise N. Raub, 31, King Avenue, Poland, two counts of aggravated drug possession and one count of illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia;

Ta’Brasia M. Gray, 21, Mahoning County jail, being a felon in possession of a firearm, tampering with evidence with a gun specification, obstructing justice with a gun specification, assault, obstructing official business, intimidation and retaliation;

Nicole L. Wolford, 28, Jackson Street, cocaine trafficking and cocaine possession, both with a specification of forfeiture of a gun in a drug case, and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

Norman M. Cornwell, 29, Humbolt Avenue, being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and aggravated drug possession.
