Sebring tax
Uncounted provisional votes could be a factor for the Sebring school district’s 1-percent income tax renewal issue. The issue passed 196 to 193 Tuesday.
That three-vote win is 0.78 of a percent, which is outside the 0.5 of a percent margin of victory.
But there are three provisional ballots in Sebring that need to be counted.
“That’s the one we’re preparing for a recount,” said deputy Director Thomas McCabe of the Mahoning County Board of Elections. “It might be a recount.”
If all three votes are against the tax issue, leaving it with a tie, it fails, he said.
“Tax issues have to be approved,” McCabe said. “If there’s a tie, it ends up losing. We’re confirming during the 10-day period the validity of the provisionals.”
