GIRARD -- A Liberty Township man who was a subject of a three-hour standoff at an East Side Youngstown home earlier in the week was arraigned Wednesday in Girard Municipal Court.
Brian Butler Jr., 26, of Royal Arms Drive, pleaded not guilty to charges of felonious assault, theft, disrupting public services, aggravated menacing and unlawful restraint. Judge Jeffrey Adler set bond at $32,500 and scheduled a preliminary hearing for 9 a.m. June 2.
Local authorities spent overnight Monday trying to get Butler off the roof of a home at Kimmel and Scioto streets, according to Trumbull County 911 reports.
Liberty police had gone to Butler's apartment earlier to serve a warrant on charges connected to a weekend incident, but said they encountered a vicious pit bull. Animal welfare had to be contacted to take care of the dog.
According to the 911 report, Butler was reported to be driving a stolen Chevrolet Malibu and was described as armed, drugged and ready to fight.
Authorities, including the Mahoning Valley Task Force and the Criminal Response Team, tracked him to the East Side home, where the man was found on a roof and he refused to come down. The report states Butler was "swearing and causing an issue."
The 911 report states Butler finally came down a ladder about 1:45 a.m. and was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for evaluation.
A Glock firearm was recovered, the report states.
A Trumbull County jail report shows Butler still incarcerated as of Thursday afternoon.
