Man arraigned in delivery shooting

LIBERTY — The accused triggerman in the April 15 shooting of pizza delivery driver in Liberty Township was arraigned Friday in Girard Municipal Court on charges of aggravated robbery and felonious assault.

Tre Vaughn Powell, 23, of Alameda Avenue, Youngstown, appeared via video hookup from the Trumbull County jail to Judge Jeffrey Adler’s courtroom. Adler set Powell’s bond at $150,000 with the stipulation that if he makes bond, he will be electronically monitored under house arrest.

A tip from the federal marshals office put Powell into custody Thursday afternoon, according to township police Chief Toby Meloro.

Reports states a delivery driver for Domino’s Pizza was delivering a pie at a Montrose Avenue home when he was shot in the back. The delivery driver went back to the pizza shop and was taken to the hospital by another employee. He had nonlife-threatening injuries, Meloro said.

Powell’s alleged accomplice appeared before Adler on Wednesday. Jermaine D. Stroughter Jr., 22, of Dickson Street, Youngstown, was arraigned on two counts of complicity as well as carrying a concealed weapon and having weapons under restrictions.

Stroughter, who was arrested about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 4200 block of Belmont Avenue in Liberty, was given a $50,000 bond.

Preliminary hearings for both men are set for 9 a.m. May 5 in Adler’s courtroom.

Meloro said Stroughter is accused of helping plan the robbery and standing by with a loaded gun during the shooting.

Trumbull County jail records show both men were still incarcerated as of Friday afternoon.
