Loychik proposal to seek more money for cybersecurity

State Rep. Mike Loychik is increasing the amount of state funds he’ll seek for a cybersecurity grant program — and he hasn’t even introduced the legislation yet.

Loychik, R-Bazetta, announced Friday that the bill would include $20 million a year rather than $1 million for private and state agencies to seek state grants for cybersecurity to protect pipelines and electrical grids.

Loychik, a legislator for less than five months, said he is making the change after talking with “my colleagues and subject-matter experts,” whom he didn’t disclose.

His announcement is in response to a cyberattack against the Colonial Pipeline.
