Grand jury indicts city man in Boardman chase

YOUNGSTOWN — A former city man now locked up in the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center was indicted Thursday on several charges after Boardman police said they chased him Dec. 8 and found a handgun in his vehicle.

Marlan B. Everson, 50, was indicted on being a felon in possession of a firearm, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, failure to comply with the orders of a police officer and obstructing official business.

Officers made a traffic stop on Brockwood Avenue at Lemans Drive, but Everson took off toward Market Street. The chase took police from Brockwood Avenue to Everson’s home in the 200 block of Potomac Avenue.

“Everson continued screaming he was trying to help his son out who had just been shot at while at (a tavern) in Youngstown,” a police report states. Everson claimed the gun wasn’t his and he was driving his son’s vehicle.

Youngstown police advised no gunfire was reported at the tavern. Everson was taken to Mahoning County jail.
