Daily COVID-19 cases in Ohio dip below 800

The Ohio Department of Health reported 794 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, bringing the state total to 1,083,609 since the pandemic began.

The number is almost half of the 21-day average of 1,449 and fewer than Saturday’s total of 1,297.

The state also reported 7,890 Ohioans received their first dose of the vaccine in the previous 24 hours, with the statewide total being 4,834,135 people (41.36 percent) who have received at least their first dose. The number of Ohioans who completed their vaccine in the previous 24 hours was 34,064, for a total of 4,149,072 (35.50 percent).

In Mahoning County, 93,287 people (40.79 percent) at least have started the vaccination process, with 77,111 (38.95 percent) in Trumbull and 33,855 (33.23 percent) in Columbiana counties.

The ODH reported 80,597 (35.24 percent) of people in Mahoning County have completed the vaccination process, while 65,393 (33.03 percent) in Trumbull and 29,784 (29.23 percent) in Columbiana have.

Mahoning County added 15 cases since Saturday for a total of 21,561 cases with 1,025 hospitalizations and 588 deaths. Trumbull County has posted 16,051 cases with 1,157 hospitalizations and 468 deaths after adding 19 cases Sunday. Columbiana County has reported 8,787 cases and 229 deaths, with nine new cases reported Sunday.

New deaths are reported on Tuesdays and Fridays. There has been an average of 21 deaths per day in the state over the past three weeks.
