COVID-19 deaths edge up in Ohio in April
The number of COVID-19 cases in Ohio in April increased compared with March, but April had the second-least number of reported cases for a month since September.
The state had 54,746 COVID-19 cases in April, up from 50,144 reported in March.
It reversed a trend of three straight months of decline since the virus peak of 279,317 cases reported in December.
The number of reported cases in January was 195,142 and 71,630 in February.
There were 205,366 cases reported in November, 61,710 in October, 30,830 in September, 31,998 in August and 39,370 in July.
Ohio reported 16,276 cases in June, 17,486 in May and 15,828 last April. The pandemic started in early March 2020 with 2,199 cases reported that month in the state.
There were 1,541 new cases reported Friday, down from the daily average of 1,750 for the past 21 days, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
It’s the 14th straight day the state has reported fewer than 2,000 new cases.
The state had a total of 1,072,312 COVID-19 cases as of Friday with 1,018,980 presumed recovered and 19,284 deaths.
The ODH provides death information on Tuesday and Friday.
There were 96 new deaths reported since Tuesday including one in Trumbull County.
Mahoning County had 21,276 total COVID-19 cases as of Friday with 20,044 presumed recovered and 585 deaths, according to the ODH.
The Youngstown City School District will provide COVID-19 vaccines to its students who are at least 16 years old, beginning next week. The district will be administering the first dose of the vaccine in the YOUCare Quickmed clinics at East and Chaney high schools, Monday through May 10. The second dose will be administered three weeks later, May 24 through May 28, the last week of school.
Trumbull County had 15,898 total COVID-19 cases as of Friday with 14,903 presumed recovered and 463 deaths.
Columbiana County had 8,694 total COVID-19 cases as of Friday with 8,251 presumed recovered and 229 deaths.
The Trumbull County Combined Health District is having open Pfizer vaccine clinics from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday at its office, 176 Chestnut Ave. NE in Warren. There are 100 doses for each clinic.
Also, all Rite Aid locations in the state are having vaccination clinics.

VACCINATIONS
There were 4,683,125 people, 40.06 percent of the state’s population, who had at least started getting inoculated as of 6 a.m. Friday, including 25,554 in the previous 24 hours, according to the ODH.
In Mahoning County, 39.66 percent of the population (90,705 people) had received at least one dose with 30.05 percent of the population in Trumbull County (74,859 people) and 32.24 percent in Columbiana County (32,843 people) as of 6 a.m. Friday, according to the ODH.
There were 3,785,650 people, 32.39 percent of the state’s population,who finished the vaccinations as of 6 a.m. Friday, including 70,419 in the previous 24 hours.
In Mahoning County, 32.7 percent of the population (74,785 people) had completed the process while 30.05 percent of the population in Trumbull (59,483 people) and 27.2 percent of the population in Columbiana (27,910 people) had as of 6 a.m. Friday.
