Analysis fails to determine cause of woman’s death

YOUNGSTOWN — A forensic analysis of the remains of Kricket Rinebold, 38, did not determine a cause of death.

The remains were found near the road at Salt Springs Road and Oneta Avenue on the West Side on Jan. 13 and later identified as being Rinebold’s.

The analysis was conducted at the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office, said Det. David Sweeney, who works on cold cases as part of his regular duties.

Police plan to continue the investigation and send electronics to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for analysis, Sweeney said.

Rinebold’s mother is making arrangements to receive the remains from the medical examiner’s office, Sweeney said.

Rinebold has Youngstown connections, authorities have said. She was first reported missing June 14, 2020.

Workers from the Ohio Department of Transportation found the remains and called police. A preliminary analysis from the coroner’s investigator, with input from an anthropologist, determined that the bones were human, but the gender could not be determined.

A Facebook page called “Missing Person from Ohio” listed her missing Aug. 9, 2020, stating that Rinebold moved to Youngstown from Towanda, Pa., in early 2020 and lived on Hartzell Avenue.

She was working at a plastics company. She had a neurological condition that caused her to hold her face and neck, the website states.

She was reported missing June 14, but her mother received a Facebook message from Rinebold June 15 saying, “Mommy, I love you,” it stated.

Anyone with information about the case should call Crime Stoppers at 330-746-CLUE or 330-742-8YPD.
