YOUNGSTOWN -- Police officers were dealing with a night of gunfire Thursday and early Friday across the city.
Two people had slight injuries with wounds to the arm and shoulder, police reports state.
A 25-year-old East Evergreen Avenue man was walking along Cohasset Drive near Glenwood Avenue on the South Side about 10:30 p.m. Thursday when he heard gunfire. He started to run but stopped when he realized he was hit.
The man was interviewed by police in his hospital room and said he was driven to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital by his brother. The gunshot wound to the man's left shoulder went clean through and he will recover, the report states.
At 12:24 a.m. Friday, a 17-year-old Victor Avenue woman told police she and two men were riding in a car on the way home from her work when she saw someone in a black car -- possibly a Pontiac -- stick a firearm out the passenger side of the vehicle and fire.
The police report states the shooting took place at the intersection of Republic Avenue and Commonwealth Street on the East Side.
The teen said she felt the bullet whiz over her legs and graze her left arm. She refused treatment, the report states, and officers found shattered glass and two .40-caliber shell casings at the intersection.
At 10:28 p.m. Thursday, a 21-year-old woman told police her home on Matta Drive on the West Side was the target of gunfire. The report states the woman said she had no idea who would shoot up her house. She told police two children, ages 2 and 3, were in the home at the time but no one was hurt.
According to reports, three bullet holes were found on the front porch of the home, located just south of Mahoning Avenue. Another bullet hole was found near the front door. Also, the report states two vehicles -- a 2020 Jeep and a Chevrolet Malibu -- were struck by bullets, and the Malibu was struck five times.
The woman said suspects were riding in a white or silver Cadillac and turned northbound on Mahoning Avenue after the shooting, the report states.
Police also reported gunfire about 1:45 a.m. Friday in the 3500 block of Nielson Avenue on the South Side. The resident told police he heard something hit his home and went to his security camera to see an unknown car driving northbound. It went past his home and someone fired from the passenger side. Police could not find any damage to the home, nor any shell casings in the area, the police report states.
