YOUNGSTOWN — Four Mahoning County nursing homes now have a handful each of COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of virus cases from 31 last week to 36 this week.

The Addison Healthcare Nursing Home in Masury, Trumbull County, meanwhile rose to six patient cases this week, leading a similar surge in Trumbull County cases.

No deaths were recorded this week, however, among the Mahoning Valley’s nursing homes.

As a state, the number of COVID-19 cases at nursing homes and other long-term care facilities dropped this week. There were 214 patient cases last week but 189 this week. The number of staff cases remained at 300.

The four Mahoning County facilities with raised numbers are Austintown Healthcare Center nursing home with two patient cases and two staff cases, Austinwoods Rehab Healthcare nursing home in Austintown with two staff cases and three patient cases, Dandridge Burgundy Manor nursing home in Youngstown with three patient cases and two staff cases, and Shepherd of the Valley Boardman nursing home with five patient cases and one staff case.

Trumbull County facilities only had three COVID-19 cases last week, but that number rose to 11 this week with the increase at Addison and three additional facilities having cases. Addison had two cases last week.

The three facilities with new cases are Laurie Ann nursing home in Newton Falls and Shepherd of the Valley in Liberty, both having two cases this week. Gillette Nursing Home in Warren has one new patient case this week.

Columbiana County reported no current virus cases among nursing homes.

The number of deaths at Mahoning Valley nursing homes remained at 275 in Mahoning County, 151 in Trumbull County and 79 in Columbiana County.

Staff cases at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown this week rose from one to two, and inmate cases dropped from six to four.

The number of staff cases at the private Northeast Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown dropped from one to zero, and inmate cases remained at zero.

The number of staff cases at the Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg dropped from two to one, and the number of inmate cases remained at zero.

In all of Ohio’s prisons, the number of staff cases of the virus dropped from 48 to 39 this week. The number of inmate cases dropped from 22 to 15.
