Ohio marks two vaccination milestones

The state on Saturday exceeded two COVID-19 milestones: more than 4 million people who have at least started the vaccination process and more than 2.5 million fully vaccinated.

The Ohio Department of Health numbers show that almost 22 percent of the state has been fully vaccinated, with about 35 percent starting the process as of Saturday. Those numbers were 2,554,361 and 4,056,758, respectively.

The numbers include 72,014 getting their first vaccine in the previous 24 hours.

In Mahoning County, 35.64 percent of the population (81,492 people) had received at least one dose with 33.86 percent of the population in Trumbull County (67,030 people) and 29.11 percent in Columbiana County (29,662 people) receiving at least the first dose as of 6 a.m. Saturday, according to the ODH.

In Mahoning County, 24.10 percent of the population (55,108 people) had completed the process, while 22.13 percent of the population in Trumbull (43,816 people) and 20.23 percent of the population in Columbiana (20,608 people) had as of 6 a.m. Saturday.

COVID-19 DATA

The ODH reported 2,048 new COVID-19 cases Saturday in the state, above the daily average of 1,847 cases during the past 21 days.

The state had a total of 1,037,600 COVID-19 cases as of Saturday with 981,253 presumed recovered and 18,827 deaths.

The ODH provides death information only on Tuesdays and Fridays.

There were 86 newly reported deaths Friday, including four in Mahoning, three in Columbiana and two in Trumbull.

Mahoning County had 20,622 total COVID-19 cases as of Saturday, with 19,335 presumed recovered and 581 deaths, according to the ODH.

Trumbull County had 15,377 total COVID-19 cases as of Saturday with 14,361 presumed recovered and 458 deaths.

Columbiana County had 8,478 total COVID-19 cases as of Saturday with 8,074 presumed recovered and 225 deaths.

LOCAL CLINICS

Mahoning County Public Health has openings for appointments Friday and Saturday at the region’s mass vaccination clinic at the former Dillard’s department store at Southern Park Mall in Boardman.

The Johnson & Johnson one-dose vaccine is being offered with shots given to those at least 18 years old.

Trumbull Regional Medical Center and the Warren City Health District are hosting a community vaccine clinic on Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at W.D. Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. To secure an appointment call 330-841-9999 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays.

The Trumbull County Combined Health District is having an open Moderna vaccine clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the county fairgrounds. One thousand doses are available on a first-come, first-serve basis with no registration.

To make the check-in process go faster, the district asks people to download, print and complete a vaccine record form from its website, tcchd.org, and bring it to the clinic.

Those coming to the clinic are asked to enter through Gate A on Bazetta Road.
