Officer, 2 citizens hurt in collision with police cruiser

YOUNGSTOWN — A police chase on Gibson Street at Marmion Avenue experienced some unexpected trouble when a citizen’s car and a city police cruiser were involved in a crash Tuesday.

The crash injured a driver and passenger in the citizen’s vehicle and one of two police officers.

The officers were in pursuit of a vehicle at 4:32 p.m. and attempting to pass the citizen’s vehicle when that driver turned left, causing a collision with the cruiser. The cruiser’s lights and siren were activated at the time.

The vehicle the officers were chasing got away.

The driver of the citizen’s car, Briante Prior, 26 of Youngstown, and her daughter, Eryn Clinkscale, 4, were taken to two different hospitals for evaluation, and both were in stable condition. Their vehicle was towed.

Lt. Gerald Slattery suffered minor injuries and was treated at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. The other officer, detective Sgt. John Patton, was not injured.

Pryor was cited for driving under suspension and failing to yield the right of way to emergency vehicles.
