In just the first week of April, there have been three days in which the number of newly reported COVID-19 cases in Ohio exceeded 2,000.

While Wednesday was the seventh day of April, the Ohio Department of Health didn’t give a daily report Sunday because of Easter and combined it with Monday. That Sunday-Monday number of 2,918 isn’t included in the count of days this month. So, more than 2,000 cases have been reported three times in five days.

In all of March, only four days had new cases exceed 2,000, including two during the last week of the month.

The ODH reported 2,064 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday in the state, above the daily average of 1,771 cases during the past 21 days. Two weeks ago that daily average was 1,527 cases.

The state had a total of 1,030,864 COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 976,611 presumed recovered.

The ODH provides death information only on Tuesdays and Fridays with 18,741 reported COVID-19 deaths in the state as of Tuesday.

Mahoning County had 20,513 total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 19,275 presumed recovered and 577 deaths, according to the ODH.

Trumbull County had 15,246 total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 14,248 presumed recovered and 456 deaths.

Columbiana County had 8,437 total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday with 8,058 presumed recovered and 222 deaths.

VACCINATIONS

The ODH reported 3,833,939 people, 32.8 percent of the state’s population, had at least started getting the vaccine as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, including 60,471 in the prior 24 hours.

In Mahoning County, 34.31 percent of the population (78,468 people) had received at least one dose with 32.24 percent of the population in Trumbull County (63,827 people) and 28,664 percent in Columbiana County (28,664 people) as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to the ODH.

There were 2,289,676 people, 19.59 percent of the state’s population, who finished the vaccinations as of 6 a.m. Wednesday, including 66,062 in the previous 24 hours.

In Mahoning County, 21.93 percent of the population (50,140 people) had completed the process while 20.39 percent of the population in Trumbull (40,369 people) and 18.7 percent of the population in Columbiana (19,050 people) had as of 6 a.m. Wednesday.
