Mom of slain boy faces amended charges in Pa.

MERCER, Pa. — Charges against a Struthers woman, whose young son was murdered last September, have been amended after a traffic stop in Pennsylvania last month.

Alexis Schneider, 23, is scheduled for arraignment in Mercer County Common Pleas Court on June 8, according to the Mercer County clerk of courts.

She is facing charges that include firearms without a license, corruption of a minor, possession of marijuana and furnishing liquor, malt or brewed beverages to minors, according to court documents.

Initially Schneider was facing firearms and drug possession charges.

The charges stem from a March 14 incident in which she is alleged to have been in a vehicle in Pennsylvania without a license plate, with 20-year-old Tyrese Altman of the Sharon area, and a teenager.

The trio was celebrating her birthday, and during the traffic stop it was determined to be her vehicle — which also had a “burnt” marijuana odor. There were two handguns found in the vehicle, the court document states.

Altman is facing similar charges, as well as driving with a suspended license and making false reports. He is in the Mercer County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

According to an affidavit, Altman initially gave law enforcement another name. He also told law enforcement that he and Schneider have been together for months and she is allegedly pregnant with his child.

Altman is scheduled for arraignment June 1.

Schneider is the mother of 4-year-old Rowan Sweeney, who died in her arms after a Sept. 21, 2020, invasion of their Perry Street home in Struthers. She, along with three other adults, also were shot.

Just last month, Schneider and Yarnell Green Jr., 30, who also was shot in September, were involved in a traffic stop in Youngstown. They were both arraigned on a firearm charge.

Kimonie Bryant, 23, is charged with aggravated murder in Rowan’s death and attempted murder in the shootings of the four adults. Andre McCoy, 21, and Brandon Crump Jr., 18, face several charges in the case, including aggravated murder and attempted murder.
