Lisbon woman gets prison for burglary

By Staff report 2 min read

WARREN -- A Lisbon woman who sought mercy from the court on Monday received an indefinite two- to three-year prison sentence for a conviction in a May 5, 2020, burglary in Liberty.

Jaymee J. Cayo, 28, of 1990 1/2 N. Market St., Lisbon, read a prepared statement at her sentencing hearing before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Peter J. Kontos. She had pleaded guilty March 8 to an amended charge of burglary.

Cayo said the charge stemmed from a psychotic episode and she asked the judge not to give her a prison sentence because of her two daughters.

Kontos, however, in referring to her background report, noted her problems with the law dated back to 2011 with burglary and grand theft convictions in Dade County, Fla., for which she received probation. He also noted recent charges of theft, possession of criminal tools and possession of drug paraphernalia from a Sept. 3, 2020, incident and another warrant pending from a February 2021 falsification charge.

The burglary charge stemmed from an incident in Liberty where a woman in hospital clothes "broke through a window," according to a Trumbull County 911 report. The woman, later idenified as Cayo, had been missing from a behavioral center on Colonial Drive.

When defense attorney David Rouzzo asked for probation because "nobody was hurt in this case," Kontos said he was not making an exception.

"Home invasions are not something I take lightly," Kontos said.
