Weathersfield man pleads in officer assault case

WEATHERSFIELD — A township man appeared in court Friday and pleaded no contest to charges following a tussle with officers earlier this week.

Isaiah Wilson, 27, of 3446 state Route 46, Apt. D, was initially charged with assault on a peace officer, assault and two counts of resisting arrest, but pleaded to reduced misdemeanor charges, court records show.

According to a police report, officers were called to the address about 2:10 a.m. for a disturbance. When officers arrived, they were met outside by Wilson who said he and the woman were arguing, but nothing physical happened. While speaking with Wilson, however, officers heard loud crying coming from the apartment, the report states.

Officers noticed alcohol on Wilson’s breath and helped steady him and guide him back inside. While walking back, an officer asked Wilson to speak with another officer while he spoke to the woman. Wilson responded by saying “no” and pushed the officer away, the report states.

Wilson then tried to walk back to the apartment when officers grabbed him and attempted to arrest him. When they grabbed him, Wilson tensed his upper body and tried pulling away again. While holding on to Wilson, the officer used his legs to sweep Wilson’s legs out from under him.

Wilson landed on the officer’s chest and was rolled over, but Wilson tucked his arms under his stomach. Since Wilson failed to comply several times, another officer used a stun gun on Wilson’s lower body until he complied, the police report states.

Once he was able to be handcuffed, officers placed him in one of the cruisers while they spoke with the woman. Wilson was then transported to Trumbull County jail.

He appeared in Niles Municipal Court Friday and pleaded no contest, resulting in a $500 fine and a year of probation, court records show.
