Valley reports 3 of 60 COVID-19 deaths statewide

The Ohio Department of Health reported 60 more COVID-19 statewide deaths Sunday, which includes three deaths in the Mahoning Valley.

Also, 1,268 new coronavirus cases were reported Sunday, bringing the statewide total to 967,422. The week ending Saturday had 13,848 new cases reported.

It was the fewest number of new COVID-19 cases in a week in the state since the week of Oct. 11 to 17, when 12,767 cases were reported.

Reported COVID-19 cases have declined every week for the past seven weeks, with this past one having about one-quarter the number of cases reported during the week of Jan. 3 at 56,304.

There were 14,765 new COVID-19 cases during the week of Feb. 14 and 19,462 during the week of Feb. 7.

Ohio finished the month Sunday with the fewest number of new COVID-19 cases since October.

With the 60 deaths reported Sunday, total deaths in the state are at 17,297.

Mahoning County reported 29 new coronavirus cases for a total of 19,402. There have been 914 hospitalizations and 543 deaths, an increase of two since Saturday.

Trumbull County added 13 cases for a total of 14,283 with 1,028 hospitalizations and 462 deaths, an increase of one since Saturday.

Columbiana County recorded nine cases Sunday. There have been 462 hospitalizations and 182 deaths.

The state health department reported a total of 1,573,435 residents — or 13.46 percent of the population — has started the vaccination process.
