Niles man shot five times on Sunday

NILES — A fatal shooting late Sunday remains under investigation by city police, but a 911 call sheet states one of the men involved was shot five times.

Officers also found two 9 mm handguns, it states.

Niles police received a call at 11:57 p.m. Sunday from a woman saying her neighbors were screaming and threatening her outside, in the front yard of 109 W. First St.

Minutes later another caller advised police dispatch that her son had been shot five times.

When officers arrived, they found Thomas Carr, 39, dead, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Dylan Hilty, 19, was also found shot. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for surgery. No report on his condition was available.

According to a police news release, Hilty ran to his residence after being shot, also on First Street.

A male juvenile, who lives at 109 W. First, fired first on the group of people in the yard, the release states.

According to the call sheet, the juvenile was taken to the Niles police station about 12:50 a.m., but was released to his mother a couple of hours later.

The shooting stemmed from a disturbance call where Carr, Hilty and another male went to 109 W. First Street uninvited, the news release states.
