Nursing overtime bill proposed

State Rep. Al Cutrona, R-Canfield, plans to introduce a bill prohibiting mandatory overtime for nurses at hospitals as a condition of employment.

The bill was approved by the House in December 2019, but wasn’t passed by the Senate.

The proposal allows nurses to volunteer for overtime, but it prohibits hospitals from requiring a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse to work in excess of agreed upon, predetermined, scheduled time as a condition of continued employment.
