HUBBARD -- A moment of silence took place and special memories were shared by city council members to remember the lengthy and dedicated service to Hubbard by Dan Livingston, who died last weekend at age 65.
Mayor Ben Kyle said Livingston's knowledge of Hubbard and his service to the community were unparalleled.
"He was a friend to everyone and always had a memorable story to tell. He will be remembered as a true Hubbard Eagle: always having the best interest of Hubbard residents in mind," Kyle said.
Livingston, who served as the city's service director since February 2012, started his career of service in the late 1970s working at Hubbard Union Cemetery, retiring as sexton / clerk after 33 years.
During that time, he was elected to multiple terms as Hubbard's 1st Ward councilman and was one of the area's longest-serving Trumbull County Democrat central committee members.
Livingston also served as the first clerk for the newly formed Eagle Joint Fire District in 2006.
Former Mayor John Darko, who named Livingston service director, said he was very dedicated to the city.
"He was very committed in all he did for the city and the residents. He was a pleasure to work with and served the city well," Darko said.
Council President Bill Williams said Livingston was "a true Hubbard eagle."
"He always put his community first. We thank Dan for all he did," he said.
"I remember he was 1st Ward councilman when I got on council. I was on the cemetery board when he worked at the cemetery. I have known Dan all my life, and he really knew all about this community and what was important to the residents. That is what he did, try and make sure the people got taken care of," Williams said.
Livingston was a member of the Hubbard Rotary Club, board of directors for the Hubbard High School All Sports Hall of Fame and former vice president of the Hubbard Area Chamber of Commerce.
Kyle said he will begin looking for a new service director.
In other business, the city building, which has been closed since Nov. 1 to the general public except by appointments, will reopen from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting March 1.
Kyle said the city has been following guidelines from the county health department.
Kyle said the senior center and the van will remain closed.
"We will continue to re-evaluate each situation as we move forward in 2021 on when we can open," he said.
