CORTLAND -- A Cortland man on Wednesday was given a 17-month prison sentence for a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old runaway girl from Youngstown.
Nicholas Hedrick, 20, of 120 Beechwood Drive, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. Hedrick waived his right to a background investigation and Judge W. Wyatt McKay immediately sentenced him and labeled him a Tier 2 sexual offender.
Hedrick was booked into the Trumbull County jail on July 8, 2020, after being found with a 15-year-old runaway girl from Youngstown earlier that day.
Cortland police got a tip that Hedrick was with the girl and they found the pair on Greenbriar Drive near Southdale Boulevard, according to police Chief David Morris. They confirmed the 15-year-old was the Youngstown runaway.
Morris said during the course of the investigation it was discovered the teen and Hedrick were involved in a unlawful sexual relationship.
The girl was returned to her family, reports show.
The conviction requires Hedrick, after his release from prison, to register his whereabouts with the sheriff's office twice every year for a period of 25 years.
Hedrick on Jan. 21 was given an indefinite two- to three-year prison term after pleading guilty to robbery. That case deals with a Sept. 20, 2020, incident at the Willow Park basketball courts in Cortland, a police report states, where a 17-year-old boy was assaulted and robbed of a pair of $1 stainless steel earrings.
The two prison sentences will be served concurrently.
