Boardman man charged after assault

EDITOR’S NOTE: After a December 28, 2021, bench trial in Girard Municipal Court, Robert Beshara was acquitted by Judge Jeffrey D. Adler of a misdemeanor assault charge. According to court records, “The state did not overcome its burden (of proof).” The case was closed in January.

GIRARD — A Boardman man is due in court 9 a.m. March 9 for arraignment following his alleged involvement in an assault Tuesday.

Robert M. Beshara, 42, of Boardman Canfield Road, is charged with assault.

Girard police were called to a bar and grill at 1015 N. State St. about 10:38 p.m. They saw the victim’s face covered in blood with multiple, deep cuts on his temple and eye, a report states. The victim named Beshara as the man who assaulted him during a dustup over a woman, and then drove off.

A witness corroborated the victim’s story, and the bar owner said he told both men to leave, leading to the altercation. He told police video evidence of the fight could be provided.

The victim told police he wanted to press charges and left with his sister to go to the hospital.

About 30 minutes later, police dispatch received a call from the victim saying Beshara and a woman were at a residence on Prospect Avenue. The police report states the victim was “angry and irate” and said “in 15 minutes either the police would take care of it or I will.”

Dispatch advised him not to go to the residence to confront Beshara.

Officers reported going to the Prospect Avenue residence and speaking to the woman, who said she took Beshara back to his vehicle so he could go home. The woman told officers the two men have an ongoing fued. She said the victim was instigating the fight by verbally insulting Beshara.
