YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County Coroner on Tuesday identified the man killed in a Friday evening, single-vehicle crash on South Avenue at Samuel Avenue as Frank N. Zamarelli, 48, of Warren, a member of the Zamarelli real estate family.
A Youngstown Police Department media release states the crash occurred at 9:17 p.m. and that Zamarelli apparently lost control of his vehicle, striking a utility pole. The vehicle rolled on its side.
Zamarelli's obituary states he died from a heart condition.
He began working in the family real estate business, Zamarelli Realty, at age 18 while attending Youngstown State University and continued as an agent / broker / owner for more than 30 years, according to his obituary.
He was the son of the late Edward F. Zamarelli and the late Kathleen M. (Butler) Zamarelli and grandson of Carmella and Frank Zamarelli, who started the company in 1937, according to the company's website.
Frank N. Zamarelli has two sisters who also work in the family business.
Longtime Trumbull County Realtor Fran Cunningham, who is marking her 50th year in the business, said she remembers the Zamarelli children when they came to the office with their father.
"I saw him grow up over the years when he was here at the office. He was a nice kid who grew up to be a nice young man. If you needed anything, he would help you. He was very caring and a gentleman,'' Cunningham said.
She said she saw Frank N. Zamarelli on New Year's Eve at the Trumbull Country Club when he came over to say hello to her.
Cunningham said Zamarelli treated everyone kindly and was helpful wanting to do what he could to help others. She said he was a hard worker in the Realtor field.
She said she was saddened to hear of his passing.
"I and others will miss him," Cunningham said.
