Youngstown man pleads guilty to hurting infant daughter

WARREN — A Youngstown man on Monday pleaded guilty to a felony charge accusing him of breaking the ribs of his then-2-month-old daughter last June.

Christopher Elliott, 21, of 164 N. Maryland Ave., Youngstown, appeared in orange coveralls with attorney Mary Ellen Ditchey as he pleaded guilty to a second-degree endangering children charge. Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Peter J. Kontos honored the terms of a plea deal and sentenced Elliott to an indefinite two to three-year prison term.

Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Diane Barber told the judge that Elliott admitted to “squeezing his baby daughter a little too tightly,” breaking her ribs while they were at a home June 5, 2020, in the 200 block of Shalom Avenue in Warren.

The plea deal called for the prosecution to dismiss one felony count of felonious assault against Elliott. Barber had previously said the prosecution’s case is strong because the defendant admitted to the offenses.

The case was investigated by detectives with the Warren Police Department. Authorities said the young victim was taken for treatment to Akron Children’s Hospital.

Trumbull County jail records show that Elliott has been in custody since Oct. 5.
