Woman dead on South Side

Police don’t know cause of death

YOUNGSTOWN –A woman 30 to 50 years old was found dead at 5:30 a.m. Thursday on the side of Kenmore Avenue near Overland Avenue on the South Side.

Police were not able to determine the cause of the woman’s death at the scene and did not know her identity Thursday. In a news release, detectives called it a “deceased female,” not a homicide.

A woman who lives near the location said that part of Kenmore Avenue, a block east of Glenwood Avenue, where she lives is quiet.

“It’s surprising to hear,” she said, declining to give her name. “It’s shocking and it’s horrible. I hope she had family.”

“This is a quiet street, and everybody’s friendly. We all get along, at least this part of the street,” she added.

Anyone who has information about the incident or the identity of the woman is asked to call the police department at 330-747-7911, Crime Stoppers at 330-747-CLUE or 330-742-8YPD. Tips may be left anonymously.

If the death is ruled a homicide, it will be the third one in Youngstown this month.

There were homicides on Jan. 1 and Jan. 2.

A spokesperson at the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office said Thursday afternoon no information on the cause of the woman’s death was being released.
