During the first six days of permitting those at least 80 years old to get the COVID-19 vaccination, 182,343 Ohioans received the first dose.

Since 6 a.m. Jan. 19, the date when people 80 years and older could start getting the vaccine, until 6 a.m. Monday, 29.1 percent of all COVID-19 inoculations in the state were given.

Those at least 75 years old and people with severe congenital or early-onset medical disorders who also have a developmental or intellectual disability have been eligible since Monday for the vaccine.

The state started vaccinating certain populations starting Dec. 14. That includes health care workers and personnel routinely involved with the treatment of COVID-19 patients, emergency medical responders and those living and / or working in congregate settings, such as nursing homes and assisted-living facilities.

As of 6 a.m. Monday, the most recent time and date given by the Ohio Department of Health, 626,867 people in the state had received at least a first dose of the two-dose COVID-19 vaccine, including 19,053 during the previous 24 hours. During the three previous 24-hour periods, 35,046, 40,056 and 32,951 vaccines were given.

The 626,867 total vaccinations is 5.36 percent of the state’s population.

Most vaccines are counted within 24 hours of a person receiving them, but some may take longer to report, according to the ODH.

The vaccines are given in two doses, three to four weeks apart.

The ODH website continues to not provide data on how many people have received both doses. But the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website listed 71,344 Ohioans getting both doses as of Sunday.

In the Mahoning Valley, only Mahoning County is above the state’s 5.36 percent for vaccinations.

As of Monday, 5.8 percent of Mahoning County’s population (13,261 people) had received at least one dose.

In Trumbull County, 4.19 percent of the population (8,299 people) and 4.39 percent of Columbiana County’s population (4,468 people) had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Those at least 70 years old were supposed to be eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations next Monday and those at least 65 were supposed to start Feb. 8, but Gov. Mike DeWine said last week those roll-out dates may be postponed.

Also, younger Ohioans with severe congenital, developmental or early-onset medical disorders that don’t have developmental or intellectual disabilities were supposed to be eligible this week. But that starting date was moved last week to Feb. 15.

Adults at K-12 schools that have in-person or partial in-person instruction or plan to offer either are supposed to be eligible for the vaccine starting next Monday.

COVID-19 NUMBERS

The state is seeing its newly-reported COVID-19 case numbers decline in recent days.

The daily number has been below 5,000 during five of the last eight days, including Monday with 4,334 cases.

Monday’s number is below the 6,725 daily case number for the past 21 days in Ohio.

A total of 868,656 COVID-19 cases were reported in Ohio as of Monday with 736,651 presumed recovered and 57 deaths. The deaths include one each in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

The fatality number is less than the daily average of 77 during the past 21 days.

The ODH reported 17,471 total COVID-19 cases in Mahoning County with 15,150 presumed recovered and 339 deaths.

It listed 12,920 total COVID-19 cases in Trumbull County with 11,240 presumed recovered and 317 deaths.

Columbiana County had 7,409 total COVID-19 cases with 6,296 presumed recovered and 124 fatalities, according to the ODH.
