WEATHERSFIELD -- A Niles man was taken to St. Joseph Warren Hospital for treatment Wednesday after he cut his head after banging it on the partition in the back seat of a Weathersfield police cruiser, according to a township police report.
Robert L. Durst III, 34, of Niles, was given stitches and then taken to Trumbull County jail, where records show he is being held pending the posting of a $50,000 bond.
Durst was arraigned Friday in Niles Municipal Court on charges of felony domestic violence, felony vandalism and two misdemeanor drug possession and paraphernalia charges. He will appear again before Municipal Judge Christopher Shaker on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing, according to a court clerk.
Police reports state officers were dispatched about 6 p.m. Wednesday to the McKinley Motel at 67 Youngstown Warren Road for an altercation between a man and a woman. Police spoke to a 33-year-old woman who had two golfball size lumps on her forehead along with a swollen face, the report states.
Officers, in watching the security video of the incident, saw a man clad in underwear walk up behind the woman outside their motel room and punch her in the upper back and head. The video shows the woman fall in the parking lot and the man forcefully picking her up, the report states. As they head back to the room, the woman leans against the wall and the man punches her in the face with a left fist, the video shows.
As officers were arresting Durst, officers noticed marijuana. Durst then told them he also had a crack pipe, which police confiscated.
While Durst was put into a patrol car, officers were filling out paperwork and could hear loud banging noises. They observed the patrol car swaying back and forth, the report states. Officers saw blood everywhere in the back of the cruiser and discovered Durst had cut his head.
The woman also was checked by paramedics but was not hospitalized, the report states.
