Investigation ongoing in fatal Struthers crash

STRUTHERS — Investigators are still trying to piece together what happened Sunday after a crash left one woman dead.

Information on the driver was not disclosed Wednesday, but Struthers police and the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office are looking into the crash that happened about 4 a.m. Sunday.

The woman was headed north on state Route 616 when her red vehicle struck two houses at the “Y” in the road near the post office and library, police Chief Tim Roddy said.

The victim was thrown from the vehicle at some point after the initial contact with the first house, Roddy said.

The front porch of the first house was damaged, as was the side of the second house.

It appears that the woman did not apply brakes or swerve. She also was not wearing a seat belt, Roddy said.

It is not known if drugs or alcohol were a factor, Roddy said.

Assisting with the initial crash investigation is the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The coroner’s office could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
