Canfield discusses electricity options

Trustees vote to give residents best savings

CANFIELD — Canfield township trustees discussed an electricity aggregate program Tuesday then voted to give residents the best savings.

Two offers were presented with one having an $11,000 annual grant to the township.

Township Administrator Keith Rogers said Independent Energy Consultants handles the township aggregate program and two programs were offered for electric service this year. The first program offered 4.92 cents per kilowatt hour. Currently residents are paying 5.11 cents per kWh.

The second program is for 4.96 cents per kWh. This program would give the township a grant of $11,000 per year for the next four years.

“Trustees can use this money for whatever they want,” Rogers said.

Trustee Marie Cartwright said in light of everything that is happening right now, she is in favor of giving residents the best price possible. Trustees Joe Polaski and Brian Governor agreed to the lower rate, which would be through Independent Energy Consultants, using Energy Harbor for electric.

Regarding another program for residents, it was discussed that someone was going through the township trying to get residents to switch gas suppliers. “I receive calls almost every day from concerned residents,” Rogers said.

He said the person is trying to sign up residents to a higher rate and the fellow does not represent the aggregate program from the township. There was a concern he was giving the impression he was. The company IGS is the gas supplier at an agreed rate.

Trustees agreed to stop the person by revoking his soliciting permit and inform him he is finished in Canfield Township. Rogers said he would take action to make that happen.

During reorganization, Trustee Brian Governor was re-elected to chairman and will serve as union liaison and representative to the Mahoning County District Board of Health advisory council. Trustee Marie Cartwright was elected to vice chair and will serve as backup to the Mahoning County Board of Health advisory council and representative to the Bureau of Workers Compensation. Trustee Joe Polaski was appointed to the Cardinal Joint Fire District Board of Directors.
