Woman reports man stole her car

YOUNGSTOWN — A city woman told police she stopped to help a man who appeared to be in distress at 1:22 a.m. Wednesday on Market Street, but the man held her at gunpoint instead.

The woman, 50, told police she pulled out of a Market Street gas station at Lucius Avenue when a man wearing dark clothing flagged her down and appeared to be distressed.

She stopped her car and opened her passenger window to talk to him. The man reached inside of the car while holding a handgun. She drove away, dragging him, a police report states.

She said she stopped the vehicle and ran away from it because the man was shooting at her. The man then got into her vehicle and fled.

The woman flagged down a passerby, who gave her a ride home.

Youngstown police received a ShotSpotter notification in the location of the robbery for one gunshot, police said. The gunshot was muffled on ShotSpotter, as if the shot was being fired from inside a vehicle, police said.
