Trumbull nursing home deaths rise even higher this week
No new fatalities at Mahoning sites
COVID-19 deaths at Trumbull County nursing homes and assisted living facilities rose by 21 this week, which is even more than the 13 additional deaths from last week, the Ohio Department of Health reports.
Trumbull County had 87 nursing home deaths two weeks ago, 100 last week and 121 this week. The state does not report which nursing homes and assisted living facilities had deaths each week, only a total for each county.
Mahoning County’s number of nursing home deaths (204) did not change. Columbiana County nursing home deaths rose from 64 to 66.
The number of cases of the virus at Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg also rose this week, while the number of Mahoning County nursing homes with three more cases of the virus dropped from 14 to 6.
The number of Trumbull County nursing homes and assisted living facilities with three or more virus cases dropped from 13 to 8.
A few Trumbull County facilities saw notable drops in their number of infections.
Shepherd of the Valley Howland nursing home reported no patient virus cases this week after having 31 last week. Its staff cases dropped from 11 to 7.
Gillette Nursing home in Warren saw its patient cases drop from 15 to 1, and its staff cases drop from 16 to 2.
Concord Center of Cortland nursing home saw a drop in the number of patient cases from 12 to 4 this week and a drop of staff cases from 5 to 1.
Windsor House of Champion nursing home saw its patient cases drop from 14 to 2 this week and its staff cases drop from 7 to 2.
But Washington Square nursing home in Warren saw an increase. Its patient cases rose from 10 to 24 and its staff cases rose from 1 to 5.
Columbiana County had no facilities with at least three virus cases last week but has two this week.
As a state, patient virus cases fell this week compared with last week after several weeks of rising numbers. Patient cases this week were 4,317, compared to 5,155 last week. The number of staff cases fell from 3,271 to 2,772.
The number of staff cases of the virus rose this week at Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg from 12 to 18, and inmate cases rose from 5 to 6.
The number of staff cases at the private Northeast Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown dropped from 29 to 24. Inmate cases dropped from 23 to 22.
The number of staff cases at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown rose from 9 to 10. Inmate cases dropped from 6 to 4.
