State adds 123 deaths

Kinsman, North Lima lead infection rates in Trumbull, Mahoning counties

New COVID-19 cases in the state came in lower than the 21-day daily average, but hospitalizations, intensive care unit admissions and deaths reported Wednesday are above the three-week average.

The state reported 7,835 new cases Wednesday, although the Ohio Department of Health still has a backlog of cases to verify and add. The 21-day average for new cases is 8,122 daily.

With 123 deaths reported Wednesday, the state is well above the 21-day average of 50.

The 21-day average for hospitalization is 314, but 436 new hospitalizations were reported Wednesday.

While 31 people on average over the past three weeks have been admitted daily to the ICU with COVID-19, 52 were admitted Wednesday.

Gov. Mike DeWine has said surges in hospitalizations and deaths follow surges in new cases.

If there will be a surge from Thanksgiving get-togethers, it is expected to be seen in the next few weeks.

The state reported Wednesday two new deaths in Trumbull County, two in Columbiana County and one in Mahoning County.

Trumbull County added 84 cases, Mahoning County added 174 and Columbiana County added 60 cases. The numbers are high compared to September figures, but are lower than many of the days in the last few weeks of November.
