BERLIN CENTER -- Former Western Reserve Local Schools head football coach and teacher Andy Hake is expected to plead guilty to a possession of marijuana charge, an assistant prosecutor said.
Hake was caught using a THC electronic cigarette in the middle school staff restroom and was immediately placed on administrative leave. An investigation was launched and Hake resigned his coaching and teaching position with the school, Assistant Prosecutor Mike Yacovone said.
But there is no Ohio law that specifically addresses drug possession on school grounds; charges are only elevated with selling drugs, he explained.
"He did resign his coaching position and his teaching position, to the best of my knowledge," Yacovone said.
Yacovone also said he and Hake's attorney agreed that Hake would plead guilty to the charge, which carries no jail time but a maximum fine of $150. Hake will have a telephone arraignment on Dec. 23, when a pretrial hearing will be set.
