AUSTINTOWN -- A township man is behind bars following a Sunday incident where he was found with blood on his hands.
Patrick Vinion, 245 N. Yorkshire Blvd., was arrested at about 11 p.m. Sunday on a felonious assault charge.
According to a police report, Austintown officers were dispatched to the Westgate Motel, Room 17, 4493 Mahoning Ave., following a call about a robbery with a knife.
The victim said Vinion robbed him with a knife and cut his neck. The report states officers saw blood on the right side of the man's neck from a small cut.
The man, who is visiting from out of town and has known Vinion for almost a decade, said the men were in the motel room and Vinion was acting strange. After offering to help Vinion with what was bothering him, the report states Vinion became enraged. When the victim called his friends to leave the motel, Vinion reportedly pulled a knife and held it to his neck.
Two witnesses did not wish to provide statements, but called 911.
After coaxing Vinion out of the room, officers detained him and placed him in a cruiser while the room was searched for evidence. Officers found a green knife with dried blood on the handle wrapped in a towel under a comforter on the bed. Blood was on the towel and a small amount of blood was also on a pillowcase. Vinion's hands also had blood on them, the report states.
Vinion, the report states, said he did not assault the victim and the fight stemmed from an argument about the other man apparently wanted to bring drugs into the room. Vinion told police the victim stole clothing and merchandise from stores to support a drug habit.
Vinion was taken to Mahoning County jail. He appeared in Austintown court Monday for a pretrial hearing where bond was set at $12,000 by Judge Scott Hunter. Vinion is due back in court 9:30 a.m. Dec. 19 for a preliminary hearing.
