WARREN — A Warren man who faces felony charges, stemming from an Aug. 9 beating at a Liberty motel room, was given a six-month jail sentence Tuesday by a Trumbull County judge who presided over the man’s probation violation hearing.

Paul J. Brock, 36, of Oriole Place, Warren, appeared before Common Pleas Judge Andrew D. Logan, who heard about the defendant’s felonious assault case out of Liberty plus a host of misdemeanors out of Girard Municipal Court that triggered the violation.

Court records show Brock received probation in June from Logan after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor domestic violence charge that stemmed from an incident July 10, 2019, in Warren.

But Brock has remained in Trumbull County jail since his arrest about 6 a.m. Aug. 9 after Liberty police were called earlier that morning to the Hotel 30 at 1600 Motor Inn Drive.

According to the report, someone broke into a motel room through a window and was beating someone with an unknown object. The victim later told Liberty police the object was a metal bed rail.

According to an affidavit from Liberty police Sgt. Michael Shuster, video surveillance showed a man had kicked open the door after banging on the windows and door with the object in his right hand. The victim, a 44-year-old Boardman man, told police the assailant repeatedly struck him in the face with the bed rail.

A woman with Brock told authorities he took a shower after coming into the room with bloody hands, the affidavit states.

According to court records, Brock is scheduled for trial Jan. 19, 2021, in Judge Peter J. Kontos’ courtroom on charges of two counts aggravated burglary, two counts felonious assault and one count possessing criminal tools.
