One of three teens who escaped JJC still at large

YOUNGSTOWN — One of three teens who left the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center on Sunday has not been brought back yet.

The boys overtook a guard, ran to an outdoor courtyard and scaled the fence, and two ran away from the facility, according to officials.

Wes Skeels, juvenile court administrator, said Tuesday three boys made it into a fenced courtyard / basketball area. One of the three boys was apprehended inside the fenced area, Brandon Crump Jr., 17, who is charged with aggravated robbery with a gun specification in connection to the shooting death of Rowan Sweeney, 4, at his Perry Street home. Kimonie Bryant, 24, of Struthers is charged in Sweeney’s death and the shootings of four adults at Sweeney’s home.

Edward J. Thomas Jr., 15, who is charged with improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation with a gun specification, is still missing from the facility. Thomas is 5 feet tall and weighs 115 pounds. His hair is black.

Anyone with information about Thomas is asked to call the U.S. Marshal’s tip line, 1-866-4WANTED, or text tip to TIP411. Tipsters may remain anonymous.

DeShawn Douglas, 17, also left the facility, where he was being held on charges of breaking and entering. U.S. Marshals and Mahoning County sheriff’s deputies arrested him about 2:10 p.m. Monday afternoon downtown near the Federal Street Station of the Western Reserve Transit Authority.
