Coroner identifies man killed on South Side

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Coroner’s office has identified the man who was shot to death on the South Side.

The office said Friday that Marquis Bebbs, 35, is the victim of the shooting that occurred just before 2 a.m. Thursday at South and East Lucius avenues.

Youngstown police were alerted to gunfire by its ShotSpotter technology, which alerts police to gunfire on that side of the city.

Officers arrived within two minutes and found the man in the road. Officers began to administer first aid, but the victim died according to a detective division news release.

The coroner’s office and Youngstown Police Department detective division are investigating.

The last homicide before this was on Halloween, when a man was found shot to death in a vehicle parked outside a fast food restaurant on Market Street.

Thursday’s homicide is the 26th of the year. The city had 20 homicides in 2019.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Youngstown Police Department at 330-742-8950 or the detective division at 330-742-8911.
