Woman shot in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN — A city female, 18, was shot in the lower leg and flagged down officers at 11:39 p.m. Sunday on Market Street near Cleveland Avenue on the South Side.

Police also determined from the department’s Shot Spotter technology that 47 shots were fired in the area of Market Street and East Florida Avenue, where the woman was hit by gunfire. Police found about 40 spent bullet shell casings in the middle of the intersection.

She said her vehicle was hit by gunfire, but she was able to “escape the area.”

She said people in two sport utility vehicles fired in her direction. She was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition.

When police found the woman’s vehicle, it had several bullet holes.
